Hey climbers! With spring on the horizon and warmer days ahead, we’ve got some important news about the Bataan Crag approach trail. There are some changes in effect, and we want to make sure you’re ready to hit the crag with all the latest info.
Effective immediately, the approach trail to Bataan Crag now starts at the Echo Canyon parking lot. Here’s how it goes:
It’s a bit of a detour from the old path, but don’t worry—it’ll still get you to those awesome routes!
The shift comes courtesy of Graymont, the company that owns the land the original trail crossed. Due to increased mining activity, they’ve had to close the lower portion of the trail. This isn’t just a random roadblock—it’s about ensuring safety and respecting their operations. Graymont’s decision impacts our access to Bataan and other climbing spots, so sticking to the new route is key to keeping our relationship with them positive.
The good news? They’ve generously allowed us to use the upper portion of their property for this temporary reroute. That’s a big win for climbers, and we’re grateful for their support!
With the trailhead now at Echo Canyon, we might see more vehicles vying for spots. To keep things chill and avoid a parking crunch, we’re asking you to:
A little teamwork here goes a long way toward keeping the vibe smooth for everyone.
This reroute is just a temporary fix. Behind the scenes, CASA and BVCAS are teaming up with Graymont and Alberta Parks to figure out a long-term solution. The goal? A more direct trail and better parking options that work for climbers and landowners alike. We’re optimistic about what’s in store!
We owe a huge thank you to Graymont for working with us. Their willingness to let us cross their land keeps Bataan Crag accessible, along with other climbing areas in the region. Let’s show our appreciation by respecting the closure and sticking to the new trail.
Got questions? Want to help preserve climbing access in the valley? Reach out to BVCAS! Check out their site at www.bvcas.ca or drop an email to info@bvcas.ca. Your support helps keep our crags open for adventure.
Thanks for rolling with these changes. Let’s keep the stoke high, respect the new guidelines, and enjoy every moment at Bataan Crag. See you out there!
